The jaguar is a part of the big cat family. This beautiful animal is the biggest cat on the American continent. These very muscular animals are closely related to leopards. This large animal is the third biggest cat in the world. This amazing animal has a spotted pattern usually tan, yellow, brown, black or white. These very strong animals are known for their power and agility and have a very large and muscular body with a large broad head and very strong jaws. Their average weight is 79 to 350 pounds. Jaguars spend most of their time resting or hunting. They are excellent swimmers. Jaguars are very solitary animals. Male jaguars are very territorial they mark their territory with marks on trees, growling and vocal calls. When baby jaguars are born they are blind. There are usually two to three cubs born. After the cubs are born the female will not allow the male in the territory because she becomes very territorial.
